Miz Jeannie’s Mercantile is the shop side of Hello, Miz Jeannie—a place where old knowledge, useful things, folklore, and everyday practice meet.
I’m Miz Jeannie: Blue Ridge-rooted, Baltimore-based, and forever interested in the things people kept close because they were useful, meaningful, beautiful, or just a little strange.
My own interests live somewhere between the household cupboard, the old herb book, the family story, the garden gate, and the working altar. I’m drawn to Appalachian folkways, herbs and traditional plant knowledge, signs and customs, domestic ritual, old objects, and the ordinary tools people have always given extraordinary meaning.
The Mercantile grew from that same impulse.
Rather than building a shop full of novelty “witchy” things simply because they look the part, I wanted shelves stocked more like an actual working cupboard: herbs and oils, candles and containers, tools and natural materials, useful household objects, and a few curious things that have earned their place through history, practice, or simple usefulness.
Some things here are beautiful. Some are plain. Some have very old stories attached to them. I have a particular affection for the sort of object that might look perfectly ordinary until someone tells you why their grandmother kept one over the door.
